For relaxing the muscles valium is used. The anxiety which arises due to alcohol withdrawal is treated with the help of valium. Valium is also used to treat confessional states and trembling. The panic attacks are also treated by valium. The group of medicines known as benzodiazepines is present in valium. They treat anxiety and anxiety related problems by interfering with brain chemicals. The chemicals of brain get unbalanced in people who are suffering from anxiety. Valium helps to treat those chemicals. Valium is also used to control the abnormal over activity of the brain. The muscle spasms are also treated with valium.
It can be consumed with or with food. Liver and kidney works as the cleaning unit in the body. Valium is disposed of by liver and excreted out of body by kidney. The person with abnormal and damaged kidneys should be exposed to lower dose. The normal or usual dose given for seizures or anxiety is 2-10mg and it is prescribed 2-4 times daily. Depending upon the age of patient the normal rectal dose is 0.2-0.5 mg/kg.
Forms of Valium available Valium is available in different forms such as tablets of 2, 5, and 10 mg. The oral solution of 1 mg/ml, 5 mg/ml is available. Valium is also available in the form of injections of 5 mg/ml. 2.5, 10, and 20mg rectal gel is available.
It is stored at room temperature from 15 degree Celsius to 30 degree Celsius and from 59 F to 86 F. The tablets should be kept in original packaging. It is advised to keep the tablets in cool dry place. Do not store them in bathroom, near the wash basin or sink. Do not leave them in window sills or in the car. There is an acid in the brain known as gamma amino butyric acid abbreviated as GABA. The valium works by enhancing the effects of GABA. GABA is the neurotransmitter. It is the chemical which nerve cells use to communicate with each other. This neurotransmitter slows down the activity of brain. Anxiety mainly arises due to the excessive activity in brain. The excessive activity of the brain is inhibited by GABA and the effects of GABA are enhanced by valium.
Before taking valium There are some key points which should be kept in mind before taking the valium. Valium has the active ingredient known as benzodiazepine. If the person is allergic to benzodiazepine then valium should not be taken. The person suffering from chronic and severe lung disease should refrain from valium. Liver is responsible for disposing the valium so if the person has liver disease it is suggested not to use valium. If the person suffers from temporary stops in breathing during sleep then valium is not prescribed. Person with weak muscles are not recommended to use valium. Drug and alcohol addicts should not intake valium. If the packaging is torn and there are sign of tampering then medicine is suggested not to use. The expired medicine should also not be used.
There are some important points which must be known by the person before taking valium. After consuming valium it is suggested not to drive. The machinery should not be operated after consuming the valium. Valium has tendency to cause dizziness and drowsiness. Before driving or operating the machinery it is suggested to know how you react to valium.
It is recommended not to take valium for longer period of time. Valium should be taken for shorter period of time such as 2 to 4 weeks.
The dosage of valium should be increased or lowered after complete discussion with the doctor. It should neither be stopped nor lowered without consulting the doctor. Altering the medicine may cause unwanted and adverse effects. The dose should be first lowered than stopped completely. There should be adequate stock available of the medicine.
